Barack Obama Inauguration Day Live Video On iPhoneSo, does everyone know what tomorrow is? Yes, I know it's the day before the new season of Lost starts up! But, tomorrow is also the day when Barack Obama officially becomes the President of the United States! I know I'll be watching the Inauguration and I'm sure that most of you will be too. What's the best way to catch this historic event? Well, in today's hack I will give you a list of the best ways to keep-up on the Inauguration happenings even when you're nowhere near a television.

Here's the list of the best ways to keep abreast of the Inaugural goings-on in real time without a TV:

1) Live Streams On The Internet - many sites will be streaming the Inauguration live over the internet. As long as you have a computer and an internet connection you are all set! Sites broadcasting the event include:

  • All the major news networks: CNN, CBS, NBC, ABC, & FOX will all have live feeds on their sites.
  • Other sites such as Hulu and Ustream will also be broadcasting the Inauguration, so you can check them out as well.
  • Of course, if you didn't want to go to the site directly, you can get the live coverage via a media center program such as Boxee. Boxee grabs live streams from sites such as Hulu, CNN, CBS, etc. and broadcasts them on your Mac or PC without having to mess around with the actual websites.
Social Media Site Logos2) Via Social Media - social media sites have become the darling of the internet scene, as of late. Sites such as FaceBook, Twitter, FriendFeed, etc. have revolutionized the way in which people connect and share information with one another. It's not surprising that "old-school" media broadcasters are starting to jump on the bandwagon to bring their content to the social media user. Evidence of this will be seen on Inauguration Day:
  • CNN will be joining forces with FaceBook. Facebook users can update their Facebook status and see status updates from their friends and other Facebook users on CNN.com while watching the events. You can RSVP for the event here.
  • Current is also having the "Shout Out the Swearing In" event. Twitter users can send tweets (messages) over Current's live broadcast of the Inauguration.
  • UPDATE: qik has just announced a partnership with NowPublic, so that qik users in Washington, DC for the inauguration, or are attending other inauguration events can add their Qiks to NowPublic's coverage by tagging their videos as "nowpublic". Check it out here.
3) Portable Media Devices - everything these days is about portability and access to content. I mean who wants to be tied down to a desktop computer when you can listen to music, surf the internet, watch video, and access your photos on a portable device that can fit in your pocket? Some portable devices you can use for tomorrow's Inauguration are:
  • The iPhone and iPod Touch: Ustream has submitted a new App for approval by Apple that will allow users to watch Ustream's live feed of the Inauguration. This new App should be released before the event starts tomorrow. For more info you can check it out on Tech Crunch.
  • SIRIUS Satellite Radio: SIRIUS has announced that they will be broadcasting "live uninterrupted coverage of the inauguration ceremony as well as special broadcasts with commentary and interviews across 17 channels including channels dedicated to liberal, conservative, independent and LGBT communities." You can check it out at the SIRIUS Political Talk site.
These are just my recommendations for catching the live coverage of Barack Obama's Inauguration. You can also check out Lifehacker's and AppScout's lists as well. It doesn't matter which way you choose to enjoy the live coverage. What matters is that you don't miss this historic event! Enjoy!! :-)
