I was just browsing through some older posts on Twitter when I came across a link to this great little Apple TV hack!
As any iTunes user knows, buying "season passes to a handful of shows like South Park, The Daily Show, Angel, Fringe, Battlestar Galactica, Friends and SNL will set you back hundreds of dollars." Hundreds of dollars is something that I (and I'd imagine most of you) really couldn't justify throwing away on a bunch of shows I will probably only watch once, twice at the most! Fortunately, there is a solution...Boxee! Boxee is an open source cross-platform media center which allows you to "enjoy your movies, TV shows, music and photos, as well as streaming [FREE] content from websites like Hulu, Netflix, CBS, Comedy Central, Last.fm, and flickr"!
So, how can you get Boxee to stream free live video from these sites to your HDTV? Well, the fine folks over at the MethodShop site did a great write-up on how it can be done through your Apple TV. The best thing about it is that, all you need to complete the hack is a USB flash drive stick, a Boxee account (free), your Apple TV, and your Mac or PC. That's it! With a few simple steps you can have a tonne of free content to play with, all on your HDTV. How sweet is that!
The following is a video of Boxee running on Apple TV:
