Today's hack is a tutorial on how to make a bitchen mood light called The Bytelight, that any geek would love to have!
The one and only, Kipkay has created an instructable on how to make a fluorescent lamp out of a bunch of old memory chips. So, how did he do it? Well first he bought a bunch of obsolete 30 pin SIMMS from ebay and glued them (chip side down) to a piece of 12" x 12" plexiglass (lexan can also be used). Next Kipkay built a plywood box (4" deep) which he painted flat black and placed a piece of sheet on the back cover to increase the reflectivity of the box. Then, on the back cover he mounted a fluorescent bulb and wired it all up to a lamp cord. Finally, he attached the memory chip/plexiglass front cover to the box and fired that bad boy up! The results are pretty sweet!! :-)
Here is Kipkay's video of the Bytelight hack:
