I'm sure most of you have noticed that Google has recently changed their favicon from a capital "G" on a clean white background:
to a lower-case "g" on an obnoxious multi-coloured background:
As you may have already guessed, I'm not a fan (to put it mildly) of the new favicon! I suppose Google thought this new favicon was more eye-catching and that it would make them more noticeable. But really, how much more noticeable can the world's top search engine get?
Fortunately, there is a way to switch back to the more eye pleasing capital "G" favicon. Bobby Russel has come up with a nifty little hack for FireFox users that actually replaces the ugly favicon every time you go to Google. How's it done? Well, he created a script that works with the Greasemonkey add-on (has to be installed for this hack). You can get the script by clicking on the "Install" button on this page. Now, if you only use the ".com" Google then you're set to go...the good favicon will appear the next time you go to Google. But, if you're like me and use a different Google TLD such as ".ca", you will need to tweak it a bit. Simply right-click on the Greasemonkey icon in the bottom right of FireFox and select "Manage User Scripts" and add this URL: http://*.google.* to the "Included Pages" section. Congrats you're all set too!
That's it! A quick and easy solution to an annoying problem...thanks Bobby! :-)
