Vodka Infused Gummi Bears "Drunken Gummies" Hack

< Posted by C. Flowers | 12:18 PM | , , , , , , , | 89 comments »

Gummi Bears And VodkaOn Thursday, we all learned how to turn our cheap Brita filtered vodka into a sweet Skittles infused vodka liqueur. Well today, instead of infusing the candy into the vodka, we're going to learn how to infuse the vodka into the candy. That's right, we're going to make Drunken Gummies! Huh? ;-)

As I was scanning through the posts on the Daily DIY this morning, I came across a nifty little hack to turn regular Gummi Bear candies into vodka-infused "Drunken Gummies" candies. Courtnix from the Instructables site posted a step-by-step tutorial on how to make these Drunken Gummies, and her instructions are as follows:

step 1: Prepare materials and get them soakin'!
This Instructable takes a bit more than a week to complete, but the end result is certainly worth it!

You will need:

- 1 1/2 cups of vodka (can use more or less if desired)
- 1 tub of gummi bear candies, plastic with lid (about 1kg. Tub found at Wal-mart)
- 1 can of frozen juice concentrate, any flavour desired (I used fruit punch.)

You can keep the juice frozen for now, as you will not need it for a few days.

- First step is to open the lid of your gummi bears and pour in the vodka. The amount and brand is at your discretion, though I have found 1.5 cups of Smirnoff vodka to be the best. I have tried this with raspberry vodka as well, with pleasurable results. Basically, pour the vodka into the packed bears until the alcohol barely peeks over the top.

- Give your newly introduced gummi-bears and vodka a stir, and replace the lid. Place the whole tub into the fridge.

- Let this sit for five days, stirring a couple of times each day.
Vodka Infused Gummi Bears
step 2: I've created a monster!.... I've created 500 monsters!

After five days, much of your vodka will have been soaked into the bears and they may have gone through a significant growth spurt, as shown in the photo. Now is the time for the juice to be added.

The purpose of the juice is to mask the strong vodka taste that exists in these candies.

- Place a thawed can of frozen juice into a mixing container, and add only HALF of the required water.
- Pour one cup of partially diluted juice into the tub of bears, stirring very well.
- Replace the lid and place back in the refrigerator.

step 3: Wait for it....
Let the bears sit in their juice and whatever vodka is left, for FOUR more days. This is essential because otherwise they will have a hard middle or will taste too much like vodka. Resist the urge to taste test!

Stir twice a day to prevent sticking.

step 4: Finally, our lovely mutants!
Your gummi bears are finally finished!
If there is a lot of excess juice/vodka resting in the bottom, you may drain it or leave it in to be further absorbed by the bears as they rest.

Remember to return to the fridge if they are not all eaten -- which rarely happens!
Be ready for the rush and eat these carefully as they can be pretty potent!Drunken Gummi Bears

Nice Drunken Gummies. These colorful candies can draw anybody's attraction. The preparation time is little lengthy.Like slow and steady wins the race , the result comes after the lengthy period you love to taste them.I like to enjoy this handmade drunken gummies with Cohiba cigar.

Better to use Rum simply because 1.) Thats what pirates drink and 2.) You can call them Rummy bears

  8. Anonymous // 11/03/2011 6:16 PM

WHY are you even on here as a six year old? and these aren't for "Giving out on halloween". If you were older, you would actually understand that.

  9. Anonymous // 11/17/2011 4:21 PM

Yeah why waste alcohol on kids. When you can eat them yourself.

  10. drug rehab new york // 11/23/2011 6:33 AM

This looks pretty tempting, but I sure hope you don't let kids anywhere those spiked gummi bears. That is not funny at all.

Well, it is A BIT funny.

This is awesome. But kids should not be on this site.

hahaha it is a bit funny! I agree with anonymous... but yes I highly doubt that is a 6 year old. Somehow he found vodka gummy bears that I as a 22 year old didn't even know about till my mother made them.. haha Gosh I sound so lame!

I read somewhere (i)sugar-free gummy bears get bigger than (i)regular bears when soaking these in vodka... Anyone else know if this is true and (i)how do they taste - (b)better, (b)worse, (b)no difference? Thank you.

  15. Anonymous // 1/18/2012 9:33 AM

Yeah, is it better to use sugar free gummy bears ? If they get bigger and taste fine, sugar-free is the way to go-alcohol turning to sugar in ur body and everything! Has soneone tried it and liked it?

  16. tabby // 1/21/2012 12:53 PM

I started my bowl of gummies yesterday, woke up this morning, went to stir and they almost completely dissolved into nothing. Their mush. I left on counter, do they need to be kept in the fridge? Instructions don't say for the first 5 days...

  17. Anonymous // 1/23/2012 7:04 AM

It says to put tub in fridge after adding the vodka

  18. Jane // 1/31/2012 1:23 PM

Putting the vodka in the fridge WHILE it's soaking is really vital to the whole process. If you're instead (and I know you are, you're here after all!) you can check out more recipes at gummy bear vodka.

  19. Shelby R. // 1/31/2012 6:01 PM

I'm in the process of making these right now...I started Sunday night at 12am so technically Monday&started w a 1-1/4 cups of vodka because I wasn't sure if I had enough gummi bears since I couldn't find the tub I had to buy a big bag&placed most of them in an 8x8 casserole dish(plus I heard vodka&plastic don't go well together)! So when I woke up Monday I stirred the gummi bears&noticed a lot of the vodka had already been absorbed, so I added about a 1/4cup more to make a total or 1-1/2cups vodka. Now today it's Tuesday&I've only stirred them once so far&again there is barely any vodka left!? Is that normal for them to soak up that fast in 2-3 days?

  20. Anonymous // 2/10/2012 2:33 AM

@Shelby, you have very thirsty bears!!! I would keep serving them until their nice and full =)

  21. Anonymous // 3/14/2012 1:08 AM

I also try this at this weekend and As vodka is one of the spirits that "Really" does not have a specifically distinguishable taste as compared to rum or bourbon or gin, etc. I know that some vodka bigots out there are already screaming that their vodka of choice has a clearly distinguishable taste, probably with tones of chocolate, blackberries and an aftertaste of burnt cherries. Anyway, c'mon everybody, vodka doesn't really have a flavor unless it is flavored vodka.
