Cigar Box Guitar Hack: Homemade Electric Cigar Box Guitar And Tape Recorder Amplifier

< Posted by C. Flowers | 12:44 PM | , , , , , , , , , | 6 comments »

You've probably seen them before: three-stringed guitars made from a piece of wood, some string, a cigar box, and a few other odds and ends. Well, today we're going to learn how to make a cigar-box guitar with a twist. We're going to learn how to make it electric by adding a $3 transducer to the neck of the guitar and wiring it to an old tape recorder, which will act as an amplifier. How cool is that?!

The MAKE: Blog has posted an awesome video tutorial and a step-by-step PDF instruction file on how to make an electric cigar-box setup. I have embedded both below. Be sure to check out the impromptu jam session at the end of the video! :-)

Now, if you want to make your very own electric cigar-box guitar, but aren't a big fan of cigars, feel free to send them to Charlie Flowers c/o The Daily Hack! ;D
