Is there drawbacks adding a fifth string? What tuning is recommended with nygut strings on a banjolele? Newly introduced to George Formby, British comic known for use of banjolele in his act.

I think if you get an eight inch or ten inch frame drum from Musicians Friend or amazon... like this one:

http://www.amazon.com/Remo-Frame-FIBERSKYN-Diameter-Depth/dp/B0002F7KGK/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1312057840&sr=8-1 you would have a similar drum as used on the magicfluke firefly banjolele. They probably use an eight inch one I don't know.

Tambourines can be modified by pulling off the jingles. They're held on by a metal post through the bottom edge of the rim, and pulling the post cleans the jingles out in a second.

thanks for dropping by. I have gone ahead and changed it to 8 inches above. I too get confused sometimes with the conversions...we use centimeters here in Canada, as well. Anyways, thanks for your comments and tips and thanks for the awesome banjolele hack! :-)

So I have to correct just a point. The tambourine used is actually a 8" tambourine... We use centimeters in France instead of inches and I made a mistake while converting.

A 10" tambourine would make the instrument looking strange, with fat body and thin neck.

Anyway, I think it is worth trying a 10" tambourine. In this case, you don't have to
